In 2012, Max Borka and Mapping The Design World launched ‘Form Follows Foco’, a ground-breaking exhibition and publication of 100 best practices showcasing designs which respond to societal needs in order to address the world’s most urgent environmental, social, and economic challenges. These experiences combine the power of design, creativity, entrepreneurship, empathy, and these latest technologies, to find solutions that are innovative, efficient, sustainable, technically feasible, and financially viable – in realms as diverse as materials and energy, clothing and food, habitat and architecture, teaching and culture, communication and mobility, or urbanism and governance.During the the Beijing Design Week 2018, the seminar Future Design will be Social Design will explore approximately 20 of these best practices that have grown over the years. Max Borka will be joined by Chinese experts in Social Design in a debate moderated by Pierre Echard, to explore the conditions that enabled these practices to develop and change scale. Which ones are still alive and kicking? What changes were needed to do so and make them flourish? What made others stop or fail? What can we learn from their experiences? And is there a recipe for success?
